Patricia Newman School of Dance & Theatre – The Richard Pate School Branch
Patricia Newman School of Dance & Theatre has been providing dance classes at The Richard Pate School since 1987. Over the years, our classes have become a popular part of school life, taking place both at lunchtime and after school.
What we offer
We offer ballet and modern dance classes for children from Reception through to Year 6. All classes follow the syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), giving pupils the opportunity to develop their skills and, if they choose, work towards graded examinations.
CFPA
Each year, our dancers take part in the Dance Section of the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts. Children who study both ballet and modern dance are invited to participate in this exciting event for primary schools. It is always a highlight of the year for both children and their families. We are especially proud that in 2026 our team was awarded first place, marking our fourth festival title.
Main studios
Many of our pupils also attend classes at our main studios, where they have the opportunity to take part in additional performances and competitive dance events. These dancers regularly showcase their achievements in Richard Pate School assemblies, performances that are always enjoyed by pupils, staff and parents alike.
We care
The safety and wellbeing of every child is our priority, and all pupils are carefully supervised before and after their dance classes.
